The US Open Champions Invitational returns for a sixth year in 2011 with a host of former Grand Slam champions, finalists and fan favorites. The Champions Invitational employs a slightly modified version of the fan-friendly World TeamTennis format, with doubles matches forming all competition. The players are divided into four teams of four players each, with all teams playing two matches from Wednesday, September 7, through Saturday, September 10. Prize money is awarded based on the teams’ order of finish.
Those scheduled to compete in this year’s event include past US Open singles champions Tracy Austin and Mats Wilander and doubles champions Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva, as well as former US Open singles runner-up Todd Martin, former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash, former Wimbledon runner- up Malivai Washington, past Australian Open doubles champion Chanda Rubin and U.S. Fed Cup captain Mary Joe Fernandez, a two-time Grand Slam doubles champion and a three-time singles finalist.
